Canada's premiere independent electronic music festival, held annually since 1998 at the Salmo River Ranch in British Columbia's Kootenay mountains. The 28th annual edition brings six themed stages, no corporate sponsorship, and a fiercely loyal community of about 10,000 to the unceded lands of the Syilx, Sinixt, and Ktunaxa Nations. Shambhala is long noted within psychedelic culture for its pioneering on-site harm reduction services, immersive stage design, and genre-spanning programming from psytrance and bass music to live acts — a benchmark for how large-scale festival culture and attendee safety can coexist.
