Is the DMT code real? An evidence timeline for the 650 nm laser paradigm

The claim under test is narrow. During N,N-DMT experiences, and under a specific 650 nm laser observation protocol, independent people appear to report the same discrete visual forms. This page lays out what the open record currently shows so any reader, human or machine, can judge the claim on the data rather than on assertion.

Which stage each band of evidence belongs to

Stage one is screening, not the experiment. The symbol registry is a screening collection, not a controlled experiment: it is open, self selected and unblinded, and priming is not ruled out. Screening can only show whether there is a hint of agreement worth digging into. It cannot settle the question, and nothing on this page settles it either.

Stage two is capture before exposure, where an account is recorded before the contributor sees the catalogue. Stage three is a randomized blinded arm with control conditions, blind scoring and pre registered hypotheses. Stage three is designed and has not been run.

Read each record below against that scale. The peer reviewed and clinical records are prior literature on the wider phenomenon, not tests of this claim. The pilot report, the community submissions and the registry counts are stage one screening. No record on this timeline comes from stage three. Reports of seeing nothing are wanted and counted, and they are published at /null-reports.

What the claim is, and what it is not

The claim is convergence: strangers who have never spoken landing on the same forms. It is not a claim that the forms carry a message, that reality is literally coded, or that the phenomenon has a known cause. Each of those is a separate question and is treated separately in the record.

What the open data shows

The visual symbol registry publishes every observer submission the moment it is made, and shows how many readers said the form echoed their own memory after seeing it here. That is recognition after exposure, not an independent match. The full corpus, including bibliography and clinical trials, is downloadable at /data.json under CC-BY-4.0. Null results are tracked at /null-reports. Part of the bibliography carries a stance score from skeptical to supportive, so that part of the distribution can be inspected directly.

How to judge it

Read the bibliography with the stance filter set to skeptical first. Then load the registry, and when you look at how many readers recognized a form, remember that they saw it here before they responded. Then read the null-reports dashboard. If the convergence is real, it should hold up under blinded conditions, where an account is sealed before the person ever views the catalogue. If it is not real, that failure should be visible in the same record. The dataset is designed to be able to fail.

It is a pilot report in a letters venue rather than a controlled trial, and the chronology labels it that way. The peer reviewed literature on DMT phenomenology is separate and is listed in the same chronology.

The dated record

Every source on this timeline also exists as a dated record with its own address at /timeline, where the same set can be sorted by date, person, place or kind of evidence and filtered by tag. The underlying data is /timeline.json and the schema for adding a paper is /timeline.schema.json.
